i've also heard jilbere de paris could be good for less $$? (it's on sale right now...i dont think i could convince my parents to spend a much as a chi costs...) my hair is thick and semi-wavy but not curly

You can get CHI's for cheap on eBay. I got mine 2 years ago off eBay and it still works great!

If you don't have super curly hair, you don't need to get the most expensive kind of straighteners. Don't go for the drugstore kind, they'll burn your hair and your skin, probably. Chi's are the best kind, as far as I've heard, but they're too expensive, I agree.

Go to a beauty store and buy one with ceramic plates. I'm sorry I don't know brand names, but the one my mom got from the beauty store was cheaper than the Chi, but works great :]

Try someones Chi!! It is so fast and your hair will stay straight.Just be careful not to burn your hair. Its really fast to use. Its so worth it.

You can find a great Chi or Sedu flat iron on eBay for less than retail. Another option is one by Coroliss. I found sellers on Ebay selling theirs for around $30-$50.

my hair is also very thick and wavy. i have used all kinds of other brands and none of them work as good as the chi. this one makes my hair a lot smoother and straight. i say just save the money and get the chi. don't waste your money on the cheap ones.
